THE LOOP

This projects seeks to re-interpret the programs of the 5-foot way which is a prominent feature of shophouses. In the past, the 5-foot way served as a transitional space but at the same time is a space where shop owners co-exist and work together as a community. Today, shophouses in Chinatown has been conserved and transformed into bars, restaurants and retail outlets, injecting new life into Chinatown.

Chinatown’s undulating site topography has made the 5-foot way into something that resembles a terracing or layered effect which allow users to overlook in to the different spaces and activities.

The concept for this office project is to re-interpret the elevated protruding spaces where collaboration occurs, to tie the spaces together and creating communities within a large embodiment.

The protruding spaces symbolize the different stages of design of the designer. One every level, boxes being interconnected to each other forms an in between collaboration space which then becomes the highlight of every storey.
